Kimberly Van Buren brings more than 25 years of experience in college, career, and school counseling to her work with students and families. As co-founder of VantagePoint Educational Consulting, she helps students navigate the college admissions process with a clear plan, personalized guidance, and confidence in their decisions.

Kimberly works closely with students to identify colleges that align with their academic strengths, interests, career goals, and financial considerations. She supports families through college exploration, application planning, essay development, scholarship searches, and financial aid education. Her approach helps students stay organized and present applications that reflect their experiences and aspirations.

A licensed North Carolina school counselor, Kimberly has spent more than two decades supporting high school students and currently serves at Lake Norman Charter High School. Earlier in her career, she worked in career counseling at Nova Southeastern University and as Assistant Director of Career Development at Wake Forest University School of Law. This experience across high school and higher education gives her a valuable perspective on how students’ educational choices connect to future career opportunities.

Kimberly earned her Master of Science in Mental Health Counseling from Nova Southeastern University and her Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.

At the heart of Kimberly’s work is a commitment to understanding each student as an individual. She helps families make informed decisions while encouraging students to take ownership of their next steps and pursue opportunities that fit their goals.
